Zleep

Bedside IoT Sleep Monitor

About

A 10 weeks project that was carried out when I was in my 2nd year. The brief was to design and create an aesthetic prototype of an IoT product. Zleep is bedside sleep monitor which uses motion sensors and microphones to collect user’s sleep quality and records disturbances.

Robert Perkins

age 27, Junior Architect, London

Rob works for a mid-size architect firm. He works long hours and requires a clear head for him to be creative.

Since he has an international clientele, he would sometime get work emails on his phone in the middle of the night.

He enjoys living in London because there is always something for him to do when he’s off work but residing in an urban environment also means that he has to constantly deal with noise pollution.

He loves buying gadgets but since he is in the creative industry, he feels obliged to only decorate his place with a very clean and modern design.

Ideation

Scenario

From Rob’s schedule, Zleep knows when he has to go to sleep in order to get a full 8 hours.

An hour before Rob’s set bedtime, Zleep will alert him that he should start to wind down.

Motion sensor monitors Rob’s sleep quality whilst the microphones capture any disturbances.

Zleep wakes Rob up by glowing and plays soothing sound during his light sleep cycle.
